Spending a Day in Elora

When exploring Southern-Ontario, there’s no better place to visit than the small township of Elora. Located in the Wellington County, in Southern Ontario, the town is a beautiful location to visit on a day trip when passing through the area or to spend a weekend relaxing and exploring. It is well known for its 19th-century limestone architecture and the geographically significant Elora Gorge.  The Gorge itself is well known for its breathtaking views of untouched nature. This is truly one location that you do not want to miss out on visiting.

When you first drive into the town, it is like you have been transported back in time. The stonework on the buildings are timeless and little shops lining the streets are stunning to see. You are able to thrive in the relaxed nature of the small town, take a deep-breath, distance yourself from the stresses of every day life, and enjoy the way that time seems to stand still in Elora. Take a leisurely stroll up and down the main strip of shops and pop into the many unique stores and discover what Elora has to offer.

When exploring the quaint township of Elora, where there are numerous shops and eateries to spend the day discovering. Whether it be enjoying ice cream and walking over the bridge or shopping in one of many specialty shops, Elora offers a perfect escape from the busyness of everyday life. For those interested in the arts, the Elora Centre is a great place to view the beautifully curated showcases and invitational exhibitions. There are dozens of creative, well designed, handmade pieces to find for sale at their artisan shop, as well as varying creative workshops and classes that are offered all throughout the year for you to attend.

Experience the beauty of the outdoors by hiking above the gorge on one of the many trails that run alongside it. Created by the melting glaciers of a past ice age, the stone cliffs reach their highest point at 72 feet and create a truly tranquil and secluded space. Alternatively, traversing the flowing waters of the gorge up-close offers another incredible experience and stunning view of the area. All of the trails are clearly marked and supported by fences and safety barriers to safely view the landscape.

You can also consider driving or walking down to the Elora Quarry Conservation Area. It is a picturesque location in Elora of a beautiful body of water, enclosed by carved limestone cliffs topped with trees. You can actually go swimming in the water or just relax on the sandy beach front too! It is a relaxing location to enjoy when surrounded by nature, fun and friends.

Looking to spend the night? The Elora Mill Hotel and Spa has been newly renovated and is the perfect place to enjoy a getaway. The Inn is located directly above the Grand River and is a majestic view of the waters and the gorge. There are 30 rooms which encapsulate historical architecture as well as modern luxuries. Its amenities include a gym, spa, sauna, heated outdoor pool, and a glass walled dining room; perfect for viewing the natural scenery.
